Default Trick Question

All righty. My friend is trying to get online so we can mess around on my server. The problem is that every time he opens up the game, he gets a timeout after he logs in. He's got a fresh Titanium install and I had him edit the eqhost.exe file. He's not behind a router, and there's no firewall that I'm aware of.

Any idears?

Couple of quick questions.
Is your server public or minilogin?
Is your server behind a firewall/router? If so a couple of ports need forwarded
Is he able to log into any of the public eqemu servers?
Does the IP address in his host file look like 192.168.1.2 or are you using a DNS name?

Sorry for the list, just trying to narrow the problem down a bit.

Is he at home, or is he in a college dorm or some place that might have a proxy to connect through? If there is a proxy, then it is most likely blocking the ports needed to play. Just a thought.

--My server's set up as a public one via the EQEmu login set up
--Server IS behind a router
--However, He can't even get to the server select screen--every time he tries to log in, he gets timed out and can't even get TO the server select, which makes me think it's something on his end.
--Had him change the eqhost.txt to what it should be--host=eqemulator.net:5998
---------
And regarding Trev's, he's playing off of home 'puters.

This is commonly caused by whitespace in the eqhost.txt file, have him make sure there are no spaces after the text. If he clicks on the line and the cursor appears a space or so over from the last character (in this case the , have him backspace them out and save the file.

-Kicks self in the head- Was not even remotely thinking about that possibility.
Let's see if that solves it.

Much love, Cave.
