I don't have CentOS, but I did test updating to the latest source code (2097) and compiling on my openSUSE server.
It's a 64-bit OS, so my makefiles force 32-bit compile mode for gcc, g++, etc....

There is at least one other cpp file that has issues compiling against perl 5.13+ due to the GvCV changes.
There's a thread on the Windows forum regarding this.

GvCV no longer returns l-values from perl 5.13...
GvCV no longer returns l-values from perl 5.13 onward.
I worked around that by instead running the GvCV_set commands.
Last time I looked at the code, on a Windows box those should load instead...

Not sure if this helps or not, but I'm able to compile the current source on 64-bit openSUSE 12 by modifying the makefiles to reference my 32-bit ActivePerl 5.14.2 install path.
